This past year we had the opportunity to link up with Dantiez Saunderson and bring him on board as a Bassdrop Sponsored Artist. Not only that but we also launched Dantiez’ own Bassdrop Clothing line. Over the past few months we’ve seen the Detroit native grow along with us as he played at multiple music festivals this past summer and even went on tour in Europe. Dantiez,  may be only one of the few second generation DJs but he is creating his own path while having big shoes to fill with the Saunderson tradition.

It was a great opportunity for us at Bassdrop to talk to Dantiez and see where he stands and what amazing new projects he has in the pipelines which includes a new album due to be released later this year!

Bassdrop Clothing: For those out there who aren’t familiar with your music, please describe your style.

Dantiez Saunderson: I would like to think my style is quite broad ranging from energetic underground beats to deeper funky more commercial tunes. Main genres would be techno, house music, tech house, and also some more experimental UK sounding garage house.

Usually tends to be more dance floor tunes.

BD: What’s it like being a second generation DJ?

DS: Ah I would say it’s pretty much like being any other DJ. We all have a dream, a vision and our own paths to pave. That’s what am doing at this stage of my life now, at the same time I definitely have some big shoes to fill and intend to do my best at it!

BD: Do you see yourself making any other genres of music?

DS: Oh yeah definitely wouldn’t mind exploring deeper into the world of hip hop production as that was my genre of choice growing up.

BD: If you could work with any artist, who would it be and why?

DS: There’s a few artist I would love to work with but among the top would be Carl Craig from Detroit. He’s an iconic figure, an inspiration to me and a close friend since I was young. Also Pig&Dan, who took my inspiration to a whole another level with their unique electronic sound and style that just cannot be matched. Mad respect.

BD: When on tour, what do you do to kill time? Is there even time to kill?

DS: If there’s enough free time I always like to explore the city and culture around as well as the cuisine. Maybe even pop into a local show or event to get a deeper understanding of the scene and people around it.

BD: Can you tell us a little more about your upcoming album?

DS: The upcoming album is set to be released before the year’s end,  it will feature all sides of my production personality that being house, deep house, techno, tech house, some underground vibes and some more commercial vocal tracks as well. It features recording artist such as Ann Saunderson (my mother), “La Rae Starr” a very talented vocalist from Detroit and more – stay tuned!

BD: Are there any new projects that we can know about?

DS: Tons of new projects in the works, always working !

I’ve got a couple remixes of Inner City classics that will be released sometime this year. Various collaborations with talented Detroit and KMS artist such as Terrance K, Dink, Killed Kassete and also have a big release coming on Pig&Dans iconic techno label “Elevate” which is a collaboration EP with French artist P-Ben.
