Mika Zibanejad: The Hockey Player and DJ

Reading Time: 2 minutes

If you watch hockey than you probably know the name Mika Zibanejad. He’s a 24-year-old Swedish Iranian ice hockey player playing centre for the New York Rangers. His NHL playing career started out in 2011 when he was draft by the Ottawa Senators as the sixth overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft. Mika spent the first 5 years of his National Hockey League career with the Senators before being traded to the Rangers in the summer of 2016.

As solid as Mike Zibanejad is on the ice, did you also know he produces and spins music on the side. A year ago, he released his first track a remix of “Feel Your Love” by Dannic & Sick Individuals.

With the New York Rangers bounced in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs this past summer, Mika took this opportunity to focus on his music career by releasing his debut single “Forever” featuring the vocals by New York native Sara Milligan along with the help of Ottawa native Elijah Woods. Not only that but Mika also took the time to play at a few festivals during the summer like Summerburst Festival in Stockholm.

Zibanejad describes Forever:

Forever is about the ups and downs of a relationship. You want distance, but you can’t stand being away from the other person. There are always things you like and don’t like, but in the end your feelings always make you want to stay.

With his first release into the music industry getting great approval, Mika followed up his debut with his second single “Can’t Go Back Home” on DF Records.

It’s not easy having a day job and a side project as we know that first hand but Mika is doing an amazing pushing both of his passions. We hope to see him continue releasing new music during the summers to come and beyond his hockey playing years.
