EDM Artists To Watch For In 2014

Reading Time: 5 minutes

A lot has changed over the past few years in the electronic dance music world with a variety of artists pushing the boundaries of EDM. We at Bassdrop try to stay as immersed in the EDM scene as possible by going to music festivals, checking out new acts, connecting with new artists and keeping up with different trends. EDM has come a long way since the days where events were held in secret, abandon warehouses to being a global phenomenon today.

We love DJs and producers that push the envelope and set new trends for others to follow as it brings out the best in everyone. In 2013, we saw many new artists rise to the top with their unique style including breakout artists like Krewella, Dillon Francis, 3LAU, DJ Snake and Martin Garrix to name a few.

Everyone keeps talking about the EDM bubble bursting, but we at Bassdrop believe electronic music is here to stay, as it finally makes an impact in the mainstream as seen this past year. When you look at the past, some DJs just had astronomical years such as Hardwell, who was named #1 DJ in 2013 by DJ Mag. However, looking into the future we’re super excited about a few artists who we think will take their game to the next level, especially in 2014. Here are our nominees for DJs and producers to watch for:

Paris Blohm – Paris is a rising progressive-house star that will make a name for himself this year thanks to early collaborations with Tritonal and more to come this year.

The Chainsmokers – The duo is already off to a hot start in 2014 thanks to their super fun release #Selfie. Having seen them live this past month in Detroit, we expect nothing but bigger hits from them.

Throttle – This man is on another level when it comes to live performance skills as seen in his jaw dropping YouTube videos where he destroys an Ableton Launchpad. Look for Melbourne native to make a statement this year due to his amazing skills.

Dantiez Saunderson – Being the son of a techno pioneer and a 2nd generation DJ, Dantiez has a lot to live up to. The Michigan native has already achieved some amazing success in a short period of time and he’ll for sure have a break through year.

Dzeko & Torres – The Toronto big room duo made a name for themselves this past year playing at multiple festivals. Look for Julian and Luis to continue their upward trend with more killer releases.

SirensCeol – Having started at a young age, SirensCeol is an extremely talented musician. With dubstep taking a back seat to trap recently, not a lot of artists have emerged, but Stephen has the skills to be the next big star thanks to his melodic, powerful, and catchy songs.

Coyote Kisses – It’s hard to pin point what their style is as it doesn’t really fall into any one genre but without a doubt their unique style will make them one of the breakout acts of 2014.

Paris & Simo – The Montreal duo have already played alongside big name producers, but this will be the year for the young producers to make a statement with their progressive-house sound.

X5IGHT – The young duo from Chicago have been hard at work releasing original tracks and remixes to push their own boundaries and that of electronic music. Look for Brandon and Jerry to continue their upward momentum as they mark their sound in the expanding EDM scene.

Henry Fong – We see Henry following in the footsteps of 3LAU this year as the former did this past year. Having already released his first original track “Stand Up” on OWSLA, Fong will only get bigger from here on out.

Milk N Cookies – The twin brothers had a smashing hit with “Mastodon” in 2013 so look for them to continue developing their “Post-Bro” electro-house sound as they make a bigger impact.

Jack&Jordan – 2014 is turning out to be the year of the duos as the British and Scottish natives look to be next in line for a breakout year. Jack and Jordon bring an aggressive progressive sound to the table that sets them apart from the rest.

Tom & Jame – When you’re from The Netherlands and have the support of fellow DJs like Hardwell, Nicky Romero, and Dannic, you know you’re doing something right. Since teaming up in 2012, the duo has been hard at work creating their sound and we think this year they will finally find themselves on the EDM map.

Mutrix – Being a former metal guitarist, you know this guy is loaded with talent. Ever since becoming a producer, he has continued to produce heavy hitting sounds that will for sure make him a standout artist in 2014.

Kasum – It’s really hard to pin point Kasum’s style but his remixes have been stellar, especially all the remixes he has done recently to a few alternative-rock tracks like Ocean Avenue, Move Along, and Thanks for the Memories. We expect him to really gain more support this year and make a name for himself with his banging remixes.

Case & Point – The progressive house duo from Boston combine thick and heavy basslines, which makes their sound more on the heavy side of electro-house. Like many of the other artists on the list they have been together for a few years, but we believe this is the year they finally break through.

Kill Paris – Kill Paris is by far the biggest name on this year’s list, but even then not many know of him. Look for the Colorado native to headline his own shows this year and we expect him to be part of many major festivals as well with his signature electro-glitch sound.

Synchronice – The brothers from New Jersey not only made it to the Beatport top 100, but have been gaining a lot of support from multiple producers. With that being said, things can only go up from here for the duo.

The Two Friends – To round out the duos of DJs to breakout this year is best friends Matt and Eli. These two bring a unique blend of emotional progressive-house with electro, dubstep, and acoustic elements to offer a refreshing experience, which makes them perfect for the ever evolving EDM world.

Kristina Sky – Not only will Kristina have a big year, but we think trance in general will have a break out year as well. Sky has been in the scene for many years now playing at different festivals alongside Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk to name a few. 2014 should be the year the talented trance DJ finally makes a statement.
