Reading Time: 4 minutes

In this new Female Artist Spotlight series, we’ll have Holli Perryman who’s one of our writing contributors highlight the rising women of the music industry you need to be watching.

As a woman in dance music, you come to realize how important it is to support and build up your fellow sisters from different misters. Women have played a vital role in the expansion of the music industry throughout history. I wanted to do a female artist feature on all the badass ladies who are making waves, constantly killing it and inspiring people through their craft.

Take a peek at these five amazing women in our fall 2017 spotlight.

DUCKY

DUCKY

From: Los Angeles, California
Signed to: Circle Talent Agency
Style: Multiple Genres

DUCKY is an LA-based artist who first started getting into production as a part of a project back when she was just in grade 8. With the help of a fake ID, she was able to work the door and DJ at a local club. Her sound can range from Nightcore, hardcore, warehouse experimental club productions and more. Co-founder of Club Aerobics, along with Bianca Oblivion and Suspect Bitch and runs a weekly free download series called RAVE TOOLZ.

If you check out her Soundcloud, you’ll notice that it consists of a nice variety of both originals and remixes ranging from various different styles. DUCKY’s played parties such as the NEST HQ showcase at SXSW, Anna Lunoe’s signature Hyperhouse party, JACK LA, and alongside Slugabed, Sega Bodega and Jerry Paper for the Activia Benz showcase. With releases on Trekkie Trax, Main Course, and Ryan Hemsworth’s Secret Songs.

Elohim

Elohim

From: Los Angeles, California
Signed To: B3SC1 – blahblahblahscience
Style: Electro Pop/Experimental Alternative

A unique artist that doesn’t depend on a fabricated or superficial image to promote her music. Instead, Elohim chooses to connect with her fans with anonymity by using an animal mask to hide her face, disguising her actual voice with text to speech software and letting the music she makes, speak for itself. In May 2016, she released a 10-track self-titled debut EP, “Elohim”.

During recent months, she released a collab track with Whethan titled “Sleepy Eyes”, followed by “Eclipse” and her most recent, “Wave”. This past summer, it was announced that she would be the direct support on Alison Wonderland’s FMUOASE fall tour with 19 tour dates scheduled from September 14th – October 18th.

Flava D

From: London, England
Signed to: Butterz
Style: UKG, Grime, Bassline and Bass-house

She was first signed back in 2013 to the grime label Butterz with a debut track titled ‘Hold On / Home’ as it had caught the attention of both the Butterz bosses, Elijah & Skilliam. In the beginning, at the age of 16, she worked part-time at a record store and her boss was a known vinyl DJ – who gave her a copy of Ableton.

Flava D started off by selling beats on Myspace to headlining club nights and festivals around the world. Has shared studio time with Swindle and collaborated with other huge names like Wiley and My Nu Leng. On her FABRICLIVE 88 mix, 90% of the music used was produced by herself.

In 2015, she released two separate tracks with both Royal-T and DJ Q. Later on, the trio announced that they had joined forces to create tqd – “A project that features music making friends who’ve united under a single name to make jacking dancefloor music that’s inspired by the sounds of classic UK garage and bassline.”

Khiva

From: Vancouver, Canada
Signed to: Deep, Dark & Dangerous (DDD)
Style: Deep Dubstep

I first came across this goddess when she was announced to play Valhalla Sound Circus 2017, this past summer. When it comes to music, Khiva‘s goal is to always give the listener an authentic experience. Coming from a yogi background, she incorporates it into her process of creating music to bring you deeper beneath the surface and tap into something undiscovered.

On October 26th, was the official release date of her debut EP ‘Quiet’ which featured 6-tracks including a remix from Truth. From curating a show on Subtle FM which happens every second Sunday of the month to sharing the stage with some legendary names, guest mixes and even touring Europe prior, she is nothing but an unstoppable force.

Whipped Cream

Whipped Cream

From: Vancouver, Canada
Signed to: Spin Artist Agency
Style: Multiple Genres/Hybrid bass

I listened to her music when I caught her set back at Shambhala Music Festival in August 2015 and I have been a huge fan ever since. Not to mention she writes, mixes and masters her music. Both an unstoppable force and a powerhouse who is cementing a name for herself in the bass scene.

In 2016 alone, Whipped Cream had 5-track premieres via NEST HQ and has played events such as Shambhala (multiple times) in British Columbia, Centre of Gravity in Kelowna and Space Yacht in Los Angeles. Just 2 months ago, she released her debut 3-track solo EP “Persistence” and prior to that, released a collab EP with HEKLER.
